The Death Of A Salesman

Success is something that can be only defined by the individual. Also success depends on ones perspective on what success means to them. Success is a very personal subject to talk about. One might consider a happy and healthy life to be very successful, yet others will consider that to be very dull. Yet there are people that do not consider themselves to be successful unless they conquer the world and earn fortunes. There is not one precise definition to success. But I think being happy all your life is the most successful. When Charlie said: “we are only worth what we can sell.” he Is putting a terrific pressure and stress on himself and others. That simply means that our lives are only worth how much money and how much property we own. Charlie's idea of success not only cause him great loss and misfortune, also it limits his potential of having a much happier life.

Poor Willy can only see as far as he allow himself to see. He is so anxious to be successful both himself and his sons, that he forgets the basic elements of a happy, healthy life. Also he put others in his crazy dream of being successful, yet he doesn't know that he is hurting other's potential to a happier life as well. To die the death of a salesman is the kind of the death we should avoid, it is better to die in happiness.

  1. Yang, you comment that "Charlie's idea of success not only cause him great loss and misfortune, also it limits his potential of having a much happier life." Where do you see evidence of this in Miller's play? Also, you need to be more specific in your support of the assertions you make about Willie's anxiety over becoming successful and the consequences it has for him and for his family. Supporting the arguments you make with analysis of the play is important if you want your reader to fully understand your interpretation of the text.
